Recognizing non-designers’ contribution in the process of designing information on visual management boards: a metaphorical approach

Abstract This paper presents a sub-study on participatory design in visual management (VM), bracketed from larger case study. In this case, VM refers to the recurrent meetings when managers and co-workers use dashboards (VM boards) continuously organize work activities performances contribute ongoing development improvements within organization. The study focuses are participating process of designing visualizing work-related information regarding workload for future boards. emphasizes collaborative workshops creation moodboards as methods, application theories metaphorical thinking conceptual metaphors. findings show that participants perceive output they create metaphorically, moodboards. Such outputs represent metaphors evoke participants’ sharing core concepts an establishment stories related be designed. turn, storytelling stress desires, visions, objectives, themes, besides workplace atmospheres, norms, values governing workplace. understanding translates shared experiences where impact how teams develop boards together.
